Freelance writing has completely changed our lives. For years, we worked great jobs in a funeral home. However, those jobs also demanded tons of time and exceptional amounts of emotional energy. We found ourselves working nights, weekends, and holidays – getting called out at all hours of the night and missing countless family events. These were good jobs, but they grew tiring.
Non-Tech Online Jobs: Retail and administrative positions make up a lot of job openings online. Within the retail industry, many work-from-home job seekers can find part-time work for companies like Amazon or Russell Stover as customer service representatives, merchandisers, secret shoppers, or sales representatives. Other employers are looking to hire project managers, executive assistants, content writers, and editors, insurance salespeople, claims adjusters, and even nurse practitioners to do online house calls.
Keep in mind, however, that the term "remote work" can mean anything from working remotely just a few days a week (and the rest in the office) to being 100 percent remote. Either way, a remote job has many benefits: it allows employees to save time and money on the commute, as well as more control over their work schedule and environment. Companies are also realizing that, beyond saving on real estate, employing remote workers expands their talent pool and increases retention.
Usability testers are asked to perform tests based on their demographic profile (education, knowledge of the web, age, social media use, etc.). They are then given questions to address and/or tasks to perform, such as registering on a website and then providing feedback online. Reviews usually take about 15-20 minutes and earn typically about $10 each. After completing a review, testers are not paid until the client accepts their feedback. Work can be rejected and unpaid for technical problems, lack of detail, or other issues the client determines.

Have lots opinions on what works and what doesn't on the web? Then you might just be right for a "career" in remote usability testing. Actually, no one really makes a career at it, but user testers can pick up some extra work reviewing websites or mobile applications that may still be in development. You don't even necessarily have to be very knowledgeable about the Internet because some developers want the beginner's point of view.

At work, you had to keep your desk neat so that you looked organized—and sure, it’s always helpful to see the top of your desk. But at home, who cares if clutter collects around you? Well, don’t fall into that trap (especially video conference calls are part of your routine). While you might miss the building services team, who used to wipe down your crusty keyboard and empty your waste paper baskets every night, it’s ultimately up to you to keep your space spic and span so you can do your best work.
Online tutoring is another part-time job you can do completely by working from home. Online tutoring is a new way for a student to receive help, either scheduled or on-demand. Sessions are done online through Skype video or application where a student and tutor can connect face-to-face. Here are some companies that offer part-time work at home jobs in the educational field:
A word of caution: Remember that where very little is required, very little is offered. These jobs don’t pay much, and they are not going to provide a reference for your resume. It may take working at several different of these online jobs to pull in the income you want. And as always, know the signs of a work-at-home scam as you sort through the opportunities.

“Remote work requires you to be a problem solver and a great communicator,” says Wade Foster, CEO and co-founder of Zapier, a 100-percent remote internet company. “In a remote environment, you have no one looking over your shoulder to help show you the next steps. That means you need to default to action and identify the opportunities where you can help your team and go find ways to solve those problems.”
Very helpful article. I am searching for legitimate work from home jobs with flexibility. I have a full time job with the state and I am looking to increase my income. I can do couple hours in evenings a few hours on weekends. I know my way somewhat around the computer. I have health benefits so that is not a big issue to me. I live in Alabama what do you suggest that would be flexible.
How to get the job: While certification isn't required, it helps to have relevant licenses in CISS, CEH/OSCP, CISA, CIA, QSA, CISM, IRCA and ISMS. Highlight your past experience in IT security (e.g., penetration testing, audit, assessment and compliance). A strong candidate will have experience working with compliance guidelines for information security provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

These little jobs are done by people who log on to a company’s site and choose tasks, which could be as simple as clicking a link. Amazon's Mechanical Turk is one of the most well-known sites of this type. Also, there are crowdsourcing projects, which are similar to data entry, where companies engage an army of virtual workers to each do one small part of a larger project.

Community Support Associate, Vimeo – ModSquad is looking for community support experts with great customer service experience. Responsibilities include answering tech support and customer service questions via email and chat, and identifying recurring customer issues, helping to solve them, and escalating them to others for review. Full-time, hiring in Oregon.

Virtual assistants, commonly referred to as VAs, come in all shapes and sizes. Many companies will hire VAs if they are looking for help with online administrative tasks (email, calendar management, data entry, etc), but don’t necessarily want to hire a full time employee just yet. They’re the perfect work from home job for busy people that may need to drop their work at a moments notice, or have very sporadic availability.
